For Parents

Every year, more than 80,000 kids play rugby. It's not just fun - it helps kids make friends, get fit, and learn to work together. Rugby also teaches kids how to bounce back when things get tough.

Rugby is a contact sport. There’s always a risk that players could get hurt. We know that, and we don’t want that, which is why we do so much to prevent injuries.

We are constantly changing the rules of the game to make tackling safer. We train our coaches to ensure they teach children proper tecniques that reduce injury risks. We also make sure that children warm up and down, and if they do get hurt, we make sure they are properly looked after.

In the rare event of a concussion, we also make sure that players don’t return to play until fully ready - this reduces the risk of long-term injuries.

  • Changing rules to reduce the chance of injury
  • Teaching children proper techniques that reduce injuries
  • Training coaches to recognise and manage concussion
  • Making sure children don’t play until fully recovered
  • Educating parents and schools about safe play
  • Serious injuries are very rare and becoming far less frequent
