New Zealand Schools represents the first rung on the high performance ladder of New Zealand rugby, introducing young players to the culture and environment of New Zealand’s national teams.
Many players who shine at the professional level of the game and attain higher national honours have begun their careers with the New Zealand Schools team, which selects the country's best First XV players.
Proudly sponsored by the Barbarians Rugby Club, 50 players will be selected for either NZ Schools or the NZ Schools Barbarian team. These teams play national school aged teams from other nations on an annual basis
NZR’s High Performance Player Development team is part of a network made up of close to 100 (predominantly voluntary) selectors and their supporting sub-networks who are active at the community rugby level, identifying the players as well as keeping an eye on players still developing
