WHAT IS T1 RUGBY?

T1 Rugby is a non-contact sport that fully reflects the unique characteristics of rugby, including line outs, scrums, kicking and the breakdown, while remaining simple to play. With an emphasis on fun, fitness, inclusion and time optimisation, T1 Rugby is a game for everyone, played by anyone. 

 

Who is T1 Rugby for?

Rugby whānau

Those who watch rugby or have whānau that play union. They may have considered playing before but prefer a non-contact game.

Non-rugby people

Those who might want to play for fitness and social aspects. They might not have considered playing rugby before.

'Retired' players

Those who have hung up their boots from contact rugby but may want to still get the benefits of the game.

Tamariki

T1 is a great way for children Year 7 and older to stay involved in a non-contact format of rugby which focuses on the core game skills.

  • What is T1 Rugby?

    T1 Rugby is the new non-contact rugby format for teenagers and adults. Think rugby but without the tackle or physical contact at the breakdown! Played with seven players, rolling subs, and on half a regular size field. 

  • Who is T1 Rugby for?

    T1 Rugby is a game for all and can be played many ways to suit your teams ability – fast, slow, with kicks, or attacking space. The game suits all abilities and fitness levels and is offered for male or female or mixed teams.

  • How to learn?

    You don’t have to have previously played rugby to play T1. The game is simpler to learn than contact rugby, for new players it is easy to pick up, with only a few rules and you’ll be taught by your teammates. 

  • How to play?

    T1 Rugby is a more social recreational version of rugby, but you can still showcase your skills and competitive side. Join a club or school near you or get your workmates together and give T1 a try.

     

  • What is the commitment level for T1 Rugby?

    Your commitment to the game is up to you. With no contact in T1, it's all about team work, rugby skills, and decision making, just rock up and play!
